|LP Memorial set for 75 Laps|
Springfield Raceway Officials are pleased to announce exciting news for the running of the 13th Annual Larry Phillips Memorial to be held on Saturday September 14th. The event featuring the MARS Super Late Model Series will be running the feature for 75 laps in the honor and memory of the legendary Springfield driver and his famous number 75.
The race will pay the standard $3,000 to win, but will have extra incentive as sponsorship laps are being sold at $75 per lap. The lap money will be paid to the top 3 runners each lap. The leader will gather an extra $40, while the second place driver pockets $20 and the third place runner receives $15.
Already over twenty laps have been sold, and the list keeps growing. Current lap sponsors include the National Dirt Racing Hall Of Fame (lap 1), Midwest Dirt Track Legends Facebook Members Kevin Priske (lap 2) and Sammie Anna Blessing (lap 3), Southwest Missouri Area Racing Photographer Chris Bork CB Racing Photos (lap 4), Jack's Fireworks of Clever (laps 5&6), Former IMCA and USAC National Champion and former Daytona 500 Pole Setter Ramo Stott ( lap 7), Midwest Dirt Track Legends Racing Member and B Mod driver JC Morton ( lap 18), along with Modified Standout Rex Merritt and Legends Racing Member (lap 25), Phillip's former longtime Sponsor in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Sportsland Pick-up Covers (laps 40, 50, 60 and 70), Omaha, Nebraska based Home Pride (lap 41), Joplin's Hatfield Racing Engines (laps 43-44), well known Bolivar businessman and racing sponsor Don Babb (laps 71-74) and the home track of the Springfield Raceway (lap 75). Should a driver lead every lap, it would be worth $6,000 in total prize money. Springfield Raceway staff continues to work on added money in the purse along with the lap Sponsors.
Phillips won 5 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Championships, and is a member of the National Dirt Racing Hall Of Fame, along with the Missouri Sports Hall Of Fame. Many regard his as the greatest short track racer to ever live.
