Wheeler Metals Bomber Rules
COMMUNICATIONS:
All
competitors must have a RACEceiver 1600 in car radio to compete at the
Raceway for the 2008 season. They can be purchased through the
Raceway by clicking here or rented for $10
per night with your own economy ear buds.
BODY:
Any
American manufactured, full frame or unibody steel body, production
passenger car with a minimum wheelbase of 106". No Camaro's. No rub rails.
No rear spoilers of any type.
Aftermarket nosepieces allowed.
No skirts along the bottom of car allowed.
No glass permitted. No
chopping, shortening, sectioning or cutting of body allowed, except to
allow for tire clearance. Front
inner fender wells may be removed. Rear
wheel tubs must remain in place. Trunk
area may be cut to allow clearance for fuel cell only.
Inner door panels may be removed.
All doors must be bolted or welded shut.
They must be stock. Patching
must be steel material. All
exterior chrome, molding, glass, etc. must be removed.
Interior of car must be completely stripped of upholstery, glass,
chrome, plastic, etc. NO
mirrors allowed. The car must
remain completely stock floorboards, firewall, frame etc. Rear fire-wall (separating
driver compartment from trunk area ) must be complete with all holes
patched with steel. A steel
hood with hole for air cleaner is allowed.
Stock latches must be removed and closed with at least 2 hood pins
at front. A 1/4 to 1/2 inch
screen or bars are required in front of driver cockpit (both recommended).
Bumpers must be stock and mounted securely (reinforcement directly behind
bumper is allowed. Stock
only replacement bumpers, NO steel pipe bumpers allowed.
All cars must be equipped with front and rear tow hooks.
They must be strong enough to support weight of car and easily
accessible to track officials and wrecker crews.
Bodies MUST be neatly painted. Numbers MUST be at least
18" high and 3" wide on roof and sides.
FRAME: Must be stock frame end to end, minimum wheelbase of 106" both
sides.
SUSPENSION:
No modifying of suspension allowed, THIS MEANS
NONE! NO traction devices, torque arms or lift bars of any kind
allowed. One stock type shock only per wheel in stock location. One spring
(may use racing springs but no coil over) only per wheel, in stock
location and no adjustable shims.
ENGINE: Stock
OEM cast iron blocks and heads only. NO aluminum blocks or
aftermarket heads of any kind, must have factory casting numbers. No
porting or polishing. No pop-up or dome pistons.
Stock
OEM intake only.
Any
flat tappet cam, solid or hydraulic, roller rockers tips are
allowed, but no roller cams.
All cars are required to have mufflers, and must
extend past drivers compartment. All cars must have the
capability of starting without being pushed or pulled. Stock type ignition
systems only, NO magnetos. Aftermarket distributors of stock configuration
allowed.
ENGINE
PROTEST:
Engine
being protested must finish in the top 3 positions of the feature event.
After the race, present the track tech official $100 in cash marked
with the car number to be protested on it.
The engine being protested will be fully inspected.
If the engine is found to be illegal, the protestor will get $50
refunded to him. If the engine is found legal, the driver who was protested
will be re-warded $50. If
engine is found to be illegal, you will forfeit all winnings for that
night, including points. If
you return again that season and are found illegal a 2nd time, you will
forfeit all winnings, including points for the season and be barred from
competing for at least 2 weeks. Springfield
Raceway reserves the right to tear down an engine anytime deemed
necessary, whether protested or not.
TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH, BELL HOUSING:
Stock
OEM type 3 or 4 speed, manual or automatic
transmission is allowed. NO aftermarket transmissions allowed. NO direct
drives allowed. Automatic transmission must have torque converter. NO mini
clutches allowed.
CARBURETION / FUEL SYSTEM:
Racing fuel cell extremely recommended. Maximum
capacity of 22 gallons. Fuel cells must be in a steel container, mounted
behind the rear axle and must be protected by roll cage tubing. Fuel cell
must be securely mounted using 2 steel straps, 1/8" thick and 2"
wide. No part of the fuel cell should be lower than protective tubing. No
electric or belt driven fuel pumps allowed, mechanical pump only. NO
nitrous oxide allowed. Any 2 or 4-barrel carburetor may be used. No double
pumpers, Must be single-line vacuum secondary.
No
electric fuel pumps or pressure systems. Pump gasoline or racing fuel only, NO alcohol.
WHEELS/TIRES:
Any
8" steel wheel can be used. Hoosier G-60 or American Racer Modified
tires are allowed. DOT Tires are allowed. All four wheels must have same
tires. Grooving of tires is allowed. Larger lug studs may be used.
WEIGHT:
Must
have 47% rear weight percentage.
HEADERS:
Headers are allowed, with 3"
maximum collector and the pipe aft of driver. No crossovers.
ROLL CAGE:
Must
consist of continuous hoops not less than 1 1/2" outside diameter and
wall thickness of .095". Roll cage must be securely supported, braced
and welded to frame in at least 4 places. Cage must have a minimum of 4
bars in driver's door and a minimum of 3 bars is passenger side door of
same pipe dimension of main cage. Driver's head must not protrude above
cage with helmet on and in the driver's seat. Roll cage must be
cross-braced. Front and rear hoops are allowed (recommended). NO soldering
or brazing allowed MUST BE WELDED. A 1/4"to 1/2" screen or bars
(3 bar min.) are required in front of driver cockpit (both are
recommended).
SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
Full driver racing suit required any time you are on the track (1
or 2 piece). Snell 90 approved helmet, no motorcycle helmets. Fire
extinguisher or fire system must be in all cars. Neck brace/restraints,
fire resistant gloves and shoes. Window nets are required. Driver's seat
must be aluminum, minimum thickness of .090" and securely mounted
with at least 4 grade-5, 3/8" bolts using fenders washers and lock
nuts. Batteries CAN NOT be mounted in driver's compartment. Batteries must
be mounted securely and shielded. 5 point racing seat belt system
required. Must be mounted securely.
STEERING/BRAKES: In
cockpit steering may be modified to driver's liking but must remain within
original bolt pattern of frame used. No rack and pinion steering allowed.
Steering quickners are not allowed. All cars must have working brakes on all 4
wheels. Only stock brake system for make and model.
REAR ENDS:
Rear ends can be locked. Ford 9" may be used in all makes of
cars, but must use stock suspension in stock location.
