Hornets
COMMUNICATIONS:
All
competitors must have a RACEceiver 1600 in car radio to compete at the
Raceway for the 2008 season. They can be purchased through the
Raceway by clicking here or rented for $10 per night with your own economy
ear buds.
DRIVER
AGE REQUIREMENT
Driver
registration is open to persons 14 years of age or older. All drivers
who are less than 18 years of age must have all required releases and
waivers on file at Springfield Raceway prior to admission to the pit area.
Once the class has grown to 8 or more drivers under 18 then we will
run the NOVICE drivers (14-18) race in their own division.
COMPETING
MODELS - ELIGIBILITY
Any
American or Foreign front wheel drive and front engine car with a minimum
wheelbase of 95 and a maximum wheelbase of 105.
BODY & CAGE
A. All cars must have four point roll cage with (3) door bars on the
left and (2) on the right, cannot extend through front cowl.
B.
All bars must be welded 360
degrees and gusseted.
C. Front bars must follow the
contour of the windshield.
D. All tubing must be a minimum
of 1½ X .095 (1Ύ X .095 is highly recommended)
E. Driver must have 2
clearance above helmet.
F. The motor must remain in the stock location, frames must not be altered
for motor placement.
G. All bodies must be OEM steel and strictly stock, No altering or
channeling of body allowed, no spoilers, wings, air scoops, etc that
alters the stock appearance.
H. Full floorboards must remain intact and visible with a metal firewall
separating driver from fuel tank and trunk area.
I. Firewall between motor and driver must be original with not alterations
allowed, all holes must be covered, stock dash with VIN number must be
visible and in original position.
J. All plastic upholstery, rear seat, lights, mirror, chrome, plastic, glass
and all flammable materials must be removed. No interior tin or other
covers, no side mirrors allowed.
K. Windshield must be removed and replaced with a full screen with (4) ½
bars. Screen must have openings from ½ X ½ to 2 X 2.
L. All doors and trunks must be bolted or pinned shut, front hood pins are
recommended.
M. No outside rub rails allowed.
N. All cars must have an 18 tall number on both sides and roof.
O. Body must remain stock. Must replace with OEM steel panels, sun roofs
must be removed and covered with steel or aluminum
P. Wheels wells must remain in stock position, no cutting out of trucks or
interior sheet metal. Only
cutting allowed will be for placement of roll cage and fenders may be
reasonably trimmed for tire clearance only, no sharp edges.
INTERIOR
A. All interior must be removed except for the dash.
B. All sashes and VIN numbers must remain intact and viewable.
C. Bars within drivers reach must be padded.
D. No interior metal can be removed except for door bar clearance.
E. Inspect and remove any metal tabs, screws and sharp edges within the
reach of drivers, head, arms and legs.
F. All holes in firewall must be covered with metal.
G. No boxing in of interior.
H. All air bags must be removed.
ENGINES
A. Only Four (4) cylinder non-turbo engines allowed. No V-Tech
or Z-Tech engines!
B. Must use stock manifold.
C. Engines and all components must remain completely stock.
D. NO performance parts of any kind allowed.
E. Rotary engines not permitted, No port work on heads.
F. Battery
must be in stock location with a master shut-off switch in drivers reach.
G. Differential
must be stock.
H. Pump
gas only, Stock carburetor only,
Fuel injection permitted if car came originally equipped as fuel injection
SUSPENSION
A. Stock OEM parts only.
B. No altering of components, slotting, drilling or cutting, bending
or clamping for purposes of changing adjustments in any suspension
component.
C. No 4 wheel driver or all wheel drive permitted.
STEERING
A. Stock steering for the make and model.
B. Removable steering wheel is recommended, must be metal coupler /
quick release.
C. Must have collapsible factory steering shaft.
WHEELS
& TIRES
A. Aluminum wheels are recommended, wheels cannot be wider than 7
with standard bead bump.
B. Any steel right front wheel must be reinforced and oversized lug
nuts are required.
C.
All wheels and tires must be the same size and offset on all four
(4) corners.
D. Wheel spacers are not permitted.
E. Only DOT street legal tires are permitted, (50, 55, 60, 65, 70
series)
F. No exotic style tires, race tires or winter style tires of any kind
are allowed.
G. All tires must have a minimum tire pressure of 30# of pressure
before the race, no bleeder valves allowed.
BRAKES
A. All four (4) wheels must have properly operating brakes.
B. No three (3) wheel setups or modifications of any kind.
FUEL CELL /
TANKS
A. Fuel cells are highly recommended but if not used fuel tank must
have a metal skid plate on the underside or tank.
B. Fuel cell / Fuel tank must be in trunk, or rear of car, and be
covered by firewall. Fuel lines that pass through cockpit must be inside
steel pipe from rear of rear firewall to front of front firewall.
SAFETY
EQUIPMENT
A. Drivers must wear fire retardant suit (minimum 1 layer SFI-5
rating) , shoes, gloves, socks and neck brace. Nylon or vinyl shoes
are not allowed.
B. Full face helmets with a face shield are mandatory and must be
SNELL SA 1995, SNELL SA 2000 or SNELL SA 2005 certification.
C. Arm restraints OR window net are required.
D. Must have a (5) point quick release racing harness. Restraint
equipment must have the rating tag/label intact and may not be over 2
years old.
E. Shoulder belts should be attached to the frame or roll cage at a
point below the drivers shoulder height.
F. Aluminum racing seat with headrest only and must be securely bolted
to the frame.
G. Must have an operational fire extinguisher securely mounted within
drivers reach.
H. No additional weight or ballast is allowed.
ADDITIONAL
RULES
A. Cars can be inspected at anytime; all parts must remain stock and
can be deemed illegal to race.
B. Cars will also be inspected for safety and can be deemed unsafe and
illegal to race.
C. Tow hooks front and rear of 3/8 cable minimum, rule will be
strictly enforced.
D.
Officials may remove any component from vehicle for further
inspection at any time. If found illegal the component will not be
returned.
CLAIM
RULE
A. Only top 20 in the season points may claim on opening night.
You must have raced a minimum of 50% of the events to participate
in any type of claim.
B. Car may be claimed for the claim fee of
$1,500.00 in cash or $500
and must exchange cars. If
pure cash claim $1,000.00 of the claim will go to car owner of car being
claimed and $500 will be held by the raceway until such time as the
claimer has raced the claimed car at Springfield Raceway for 4 races.
If the claimed car is not raced at Springfield Raceway 4 events
then the $500 will be given back to the person who had their car claimed.
C. In an exchange claim, drivers will retain their seat, belts, fuel
cell and fire extinguisher.
D. The car being claimed can not be reclaimed for a period of (3)
races and the driver who was claimed can not be claimed again for the
period of (3) races from the initial claim.
E. The top 4 finishing cars in the A feature are eligible to be
claimed by any driver finishing 5th on back in the A feature
that is on the same lap as the leader.
F. Claims may only be made by the driver and must be made within 5
minutes for pulling into the tech area, the claiming driver must present
the cash to the tech official when making the claim, the claimed driver
has 5 minutes to accept or exchange cars or refuse the claim.
In the event of multiple claims on the same car, a drawing will be
held for all parties involved.
G. Any driver who refusing a claim will lose all of their points and
prize money for that night and all points accumulated to date and will be
banned from racing in any hornet car for one year.
A driver can only claim another driver once per season and a driver
can only claim a car twice per season.
SPRINGFIELD
RACEWAY Officials RESERVE
THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW ANY CAR FROM COMPETITION THAT OFFICIALS FEEL IS
UNSAFE.

the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable
requirements for such events. By participating in these events, all
participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. They are
intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a
guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.
No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication
of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. Springfield
Raceway officials shall permit minor deviation from any of the
specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in their
opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. No expressed or
implied warranty of safety shall result from such alteration of
specifications. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is
left to the discretion of the officials and all decision will be final.
SPRINGFIELD
RACEWAY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE AND/OR MODIFY THESE RULES AT ANY TIME
WITHOUT NOTICE.
